TIPS: Translation into Portuguese

A long history, dating back to 1994, has helped TIPS become the company it is today.

In 1994, a group of graduates from one of the first Translation degree programmes offered in Portugal decided to create a translation company. The main objective of this company was to be the best-organised translation company in Portugal, so that translators and clients alike could benefit from high-quality language services.

When TIPS was born, computers were not yet the main tool of the trade. Translation projects arrived on printed paper and by fax, charges were based on target text word counts, and there was a specific charge depending on the means of delivery. However, by 1996, translation work at TIPS was already being carried out using a computer-aided translation tool. The first traineeships started in 1997, with students coming in from the University of Salford, and later from the University of Porto.

Over the years, TIPS specialised in providing translation services into European Portuguese for multilingual projects and one-off requirements. TIPS has worked with over 100 different Project Managers from translation companies established in the UK, the Netherlands, the United States, Singapore, Angola and China, to name just a few. Evidence of our capacity to adapt to new and demanding projects can be seen in the fact that TIPS was recognised as the main external provider of translation services into European Portuguese by some of the biggest companies in the translation industry.
